On this occasion, I simply want to say that I absolutely love this country and the principles it stands for.  This does not mean I do not acknowledge its faults and realize there is room for improvement.  In fact, to do so is one of the more patriotic things one can do.  We have many differences among us, we citizens of the United States.  That should be what makes us special, as long as we do not let this fact tear us apart.

Last night, people of all shapes, sizes, and colors gathered (among other special places) at the Virginia War Memorial on the banks of the James River in Richmond to remember the sacrifices that have been made for our nation, and celebrate our commonalities.  My birthday wish is that in the coming years, hopefully months, our leaders somehow learn to come together and use our differences to create a diverse and unique society, one that, in some small way, represents us all.  Focusing on what we share in common, rather than exploiting our differences for political gain, should lead us down that path.

To all my fellow citizens on all points of the political spectrum, enjoy this day!  We have something very special in this land, and it can only get better!
